It was the old capital of erstwhile princely state of Chamba, known as Brahmpura. During the regime of Sahil Verman the founder of Chamba, 84 Yogis had visited Brahmpura. Pleased with the King's hospitality, they blessed him with ten sons and a daughter Champavati, later named Chamba. It is an ancient principality, dating back to the sixth century discovered by Sir Alexander Cunnigham in 1839.
