Each Village in Himachal Pradesh has a deity (Gram Devta). This deity is worshipped in its idol and approached through the pujari (Priest). When invoked the gram devta through the pujari directs the people to perform certain acts or puja and get rid of the problem for which devta was invoked. Immense Faith of People in these devtas and obeying by their dictates gives peace to them and so to the society, which is peaceful and law abiding. The Hindu trinity of Gods is held in highest esteem and revered but the affinity ol the populace with the local devta is more pronounced as they find them conveniently propitiated through the pujari.
Besides Nag and Gugga, Shiva and Shakti are most venerated deities of the people here. Shivratri and Navratras are, therefore, the festivals when visit to Himachal Pradesh would be most fruitful to Hindu pilgrims.
