Introduction to Kullu District

kullu, HimachalKullu derives its name from Kuluta or Kulanatpeetha, "the end of the habitable world". Today it is a bustling tourist town with Manali in its vicinity. The district does not have forts; it could probably be because no need was felt to have fortification, as the terrain of Pir Panjal ranges of the Himalayas are steep and inhospitable. Well, what to say about kullu is, Kullu valley is gifted with  every thing that you can imagine. The Marvelous landscapes, hospitable, peaceful & co-operative people having distinct life style & culture are some of the points that separate Kullu from rest of Himachal Pradesh.

Altitude: High altitude district. Height varies between 1,219 mts. at Kullu to 3,980. meters at Rohtang Pass with Manali at 1915 mts.

Temperature: Ranges from 38° in summer to 0° and minus in winters.

Reaching there -

Air: nearest airport is Bhuntar (10 kms from Kullu town).

Rail: nearest railheads are Chandigarh (258 kms.) and Pathankot (285 kms)

Road: Well connected with road to Shimla and other towns. National Highway link to Delhi-Chandigarh.

Accommodation: HPTDC and other hotels are aplenty in the area of Kullu and Manali, Naggar.

Places of interest: Plenty in Kullu-Manali circuit.
