About Nahan

Nahan, Sirmour, HimachalThe capital of the erstwhile princely state of Sirmaur, Nahan was founded in founded in 1621 by Maharaja Karam Prakash and this was the only state in present day Himachal Pradesh whose ruler had title of Maharaja. The  remains of the original capital lie at Sirmauri Taal, near Paonta Sahib and this was destroyed in a flood, supposedly after being cursed by a dancing girl. A laid-back attitude and a clean and dust-free atmosphere are the prime features of the Nahan town in the state of Himachal Pradesh.

Today’s Nahan is a charming town which is also the headquarters of the district of Sirmaur. It has graceful houses, winding roads and several old palaces. The town has one the oldest municipalities in the country and this dates back more than a century. The Nahan Foundry, established in 1873 under the aegis of Raja Shamsher Prakash, remains a heritage enterprise with its old casts and machines. The Ranzore Palace and the Collectorate are other buildings of Interest.

Enroute to nahan, sirmour, himachal45 km from Sirmaur,  Built in a series of interlocking circles. It is situated  at an altitude of 932 metres  from the  sea  level. It has numerous pleasing walks, several temples, a gurudwara and interesting architecture. It has as a pleasant climate almost throughout the year. It  has  several famous temples and  tanks  which  add   considerably  to its attraction. It has an ancient palace  just  in the  heart of the town which has its  own  importance  and   attracts  the tourists from outside the town.  It commands   on  all   sides extensive and  beautiful  views.   The town's special attractions  include its three lovely and lonely walks,  known as   the  Villa Round,  the   Military  Round  and the   Hospital  Round,  which  give the tourists a very Nahan Town pleasant   view  of  the surrounding areas. Just  below  the palace is the beautiful garden known as Ranital Bagh which is one of the most beautiful spots of  the  town. Anytime is a good time to visit Nahan in Himachal, as the town has a pleasant climate and invites visitors throughout the year. From the tourist point of view this town  has its own importance  having  all modern amenities with  well  furnished   rest houses and other private accommodation.
