Arki, a small tehsi! town of Solan District, was the capital of Baghal state. Its palace commands attention for its location and the beauty of its simple architecture. Rich frescos that rank only next to those of Nurpur and Kangra are the pride of this Palace. The Diwan Khana is tiny, probably not more than 30 feet by 20 feet but within this space the painters have worked wonders. The arches have scenes of European towns, ports, Goa port and also scenes from civil life and military formations. There are floral designs in green, red and gold and the motifs are rich. There are also scenes from the Mahabharata, the Ramayana, figures of gods and goddesses, episodes like Kalia-mardan, Kamdev's arrows aimed at Lord Shiva and various other themes from mythology. These paintings were executed by Raja Kishen Chand in 1850.
Location: 43kms. from Shimla on Shimla-Bilaspur-Mandi road via Shalaghat. 47 Kms. from Solan
