At Kinnaur’s Gate
Nigulsari : This is a small village at the start of the district from the direction of Rampur and has an attractive temple.
Nichar : (2150 m). This lies on the alignment of the old Hindustan Tibet road and is approached by a side road of 16 Kms that turns off near the Sholding Khud on the present highway (NH22). This has thick forests dotted with orchards and a variety of wildlife that include bears, ghoral and the thar. The pagodal temple dedicated to the deity Ukha (Usha) is an excellent example of local craftsmanship. This temple is known for its carvings. Nichar 50 km away from Rampur, a beautiful and serene resting-place amidst thick forest recognized for wild life. This village is situated between Taranda & Wangtu on the left bank of Satluj about 5 kms. above Wangtu. The scenery is enchanting. Ghoral , antelopes, black & red bears are seen sometimes in higher ranges.
Rampur : (131 km from Shimla) in Shimla District on the banks of river Sutlej is the focal point from which starts the tour of Kinnaur District. Rampur is located on the banks of the river Satluj and commences its flow from the Mansarovar in Tibet. Towards the west, gorgeous wide terraces of this river extend upto Tattapani. Here, the most coveted hot springs are present. The place hosts the annual Lavi fair, which is an important event for the locals and thousands throng to this place during the festival. The festival becomes lively with cultural activities, sports and colourful markets graciously displaying shawls and handicrafts and dry fruits. Rampur Also has a Famous Raghunath Temple.
The Sangla Valley
It is 98 km from Rampur. It is Kinnaur's most beautiful side-valley. The valley is about 95 km long starting from Karcham (1899 m) to Chung Sakhago pass. Chitkul(3450 m), in the middle of the valley, is the last inhabited village here. The village of Kamru is a kilometre above Sangla. Recong Peo, Kalpa and Beyond
Recong Peo (2670m) is the headquarters of the District and 260 km from Shimla. It faces the mountains of Jorkanden (6473 m) and Kinner Kailash (6050 m). The parikrama of Kinner Kailash where Lord Shiva is believed to be residing takes about seven days. A seventy nine-foot high rock formation in Kinner Kailash is revered as Shivlinga and when covered with snow, it appears to change colours as the day passes from morning to evening. Find More[...]
