Kufri, near Shimla is one the oldest places in India to be associated with skiing and despite climatic changes, these slopes are still in use.

Comprehensive facilities exist at Narkanda, 64 kms from Shimla. There is a range of slopes including a beginners' run, an advanced slope and a slalom run. Himachal Tourism offers ski courses with instruction, board and lodging and equipment at Narkanda. Day-skiers may also hire equipment and use the slopes.

Encircled by some of the most stunningly scenic landscapes in the world, the well established resort town of Manali is a major focus for the sport. The town is home to Directorate of Mountaineering and Allied Sports which conducts a series of courses at the picturesque Solang Valley, one of the area's most beautiful spots. These courses start in the first half of January and carry on into March. A collaborative arrangement with Himachal Tourism ensures that accommodation is available at its network of hotels on a twin sharing basis. The course package includes ski equipment, training, boarding and lodging and transport to the ski site. At Manali. some companies in the private sector also offer skiing courses and facilities.
